debugpy issue on Python 3.12

Hi

After an upgrade of my IT on Python 3.12, I cannot use debugpy with VScode anymore:

• I had a look a possible change on the "launch.json" file (I made tests) but I've always the errors here bellow
• I dug on internet but i probably missed something
• I cannot say if it comes from Python itself or debugpy

Any feedback/fix on it?

What version of debugpy do you have installed in your environment?

Hi rich,

Thanks for your question.

I installed debugpy with 'pip' and 'pip freeze' is telling me it's the 1.8.20 debugpy release.
For Python, it is 'Python 3.12.13'

Note whatever is the 'launch.json' configuration i'm using, the issues always occur.

AFAICT, you have a dataclasses.py file in your site-packages folder that is messing things up.

"XXX/env-3.12/lib/python3.12/site-packages/debugpy/adapter/../../dataclasses.py"

That should collapse to XXX/env-3.12/lib/python3.12/site-packages/dataclasses.py.

Not sure why you have that file there.

Hi Rich,

I think you're right; I've neutralized the file "dataclasses.py" (by adding "_" at the end) and debugpy seems working as expected
(however i need to verify no other unwanted behaviour can occur when such file is missing)
